Labor Orgasms on 20/20, Jan 2 @10pm

Many of you have already heard about the new film, Orgasmic Birth, but the mainstream is about to get an earfull when 20/20 takes on the question of whether orgasms in labor are possible, and if so…how do you get one?

It’s great to see this kind of story about birth.  The fact that the secret to pleasure in labor is leaving mothers alone speaks well for all kinds of reasons.  The most common concern I’ve heard from natural childbirth advocates is that women will feel disappointed if they don’t have an orgasm in labor.  After watching the film, I have to say that the births are very realistic and not overly portrayed as all pleasure.  The labors are intense, and we get to see that there is more than pain in these women’s expressions…a whole lot more.

Have any of you experienced a labor sensation like an orgasm or actually had one in labor?

Nope, nothing orgasm-like here (3/3). We discussed this at birth circle a bit Monday. What could be equally shocking to the mainstream would be the film “Like-a-Huge-BM Birth” –it seems so many women are still surprised by this description. It also seems to be totally taboo to say that you pooped while pushing. (In fact, *I* even feel weird writing it here. Feel free to censor! ha)

Wanted to share with you this conference I just found tonight while flitting around online. “Society’s issues + Women’s Voices” Boy do I want some voices to be heard… Road Trip?

I agree with you about the poop taboo. I remember when Ina May Gaskin was in Charlottesville a few years ago she told the audience that she thinks some C-sections might happen because women are afraid to fart in front of everyone. They just don’t feel like they can really push because they are sure they will let one go.

After the farting and the pooping, when I could really let go and not feel inhibited…and just before that firey crowning…I can say that I felt something very good (and very personal) that could only be described as pleasurable.
